Finally, some good news from FDA on bispenol A (BPA), the infamous toxic plastics chemical.
Thanks to scientists who refused to be intimidated by Big Plastics and the relentless hammering of parents, consumers, and health and environment advocates, FDA is being forced to reevaluate BPA. BPA is a synthetic estrogen and industrial chemical that leaches into food and drink from food cans and polycarbonate plastics. This time, we hope FDA will consider the hundreds of scientific studies that have linked BPA to a whole host of serious health problems. Earlier this month FDA’s own BPA subcommittee declared that the agency had used a “severely flawed” assessment when it refused to ban BPA from food packaging.
EWG researchers have been in the thick of this fight for several years, pressuring bureaucrats for change and providing everyday solutions for avoiding this nasty chemical.
